SAN RAFAEL, Calif. --- Game two was not as much of a runaway victory as the first, but it still felt throughout as if the Eagles were a class above their opponents on this day by the bay. Biola would have to deal with a bit of stress in the final inning, but would ultimately come out on top in a 3-1 win over Dominican.
Â
The Penguins' first three hitters of the seventh inning reached safely, putting all the pressure on
Kaile Chavez and the Eagles' defense. A smart play from
Missy Poti got the first out of the inning at home plate. Chavez then rolled back-to-back groundouts allowing just the one run to cross the plate and preserving the second win of the afternoon.
Â
Hits were not harder to come by in game two, but runs proved to be as the Eagles stranded six runners throughout the ballgame.
Â
Ari Gonzales,
Tori Apodaca,
Kayla Neff and
Areana Ramos provided much of the punch for BU in game two. Each Eagle had a pair of hits to contribute towards Biola's 12-hit effort against Rosa Leguria in a complete game effort from the Dominican starter.
Â
Biola scored two in the second and added an insurance run in the fifth to head into that final inning with a 3-0 lead.
Â
A
Sicili Brittingham single and stolen base set up the offense in the second inning. She came around to score the Eagles' first run when Gonzales recorded a two-bagger in her first at-bat. Gonzales scored what would ultimately be the game-winning run when
Madison Blossey singled a few batters later.
Â
The extra run was manufactured with the Eagles forcing a lot of runners on base in the fifth. Neff,
Kiana Meriales and Ramos all singled to load the bases with one out and then a
Missy Poti groundout made it a 3-0 ballgames. Poti drove in three runs on the day, adding to her two RBI from game one.
Â
Paula Damas was the game two starter for BU and had one of her best efforts of the season. She went four shutout innings with no walks and just two hits allowed to earn her sixth win of the year.
Â
With the doubleheader sweep the Eagles improve to 18-12 and 13-7 in PacWest Conference play. The two teams are back at it tomorrow for two more beginning at noon.
