LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Tennis ensured at least a .500 daily record with a 7-0 win over Willamette (Ore.) early on Friday morning at the Biola Tennis Center. The Eagles' men's team is play two-thirds of a Biola Tennis tripleheader at the BTC Friday, with another match coming up at 4 p.m.

The Eagles finished doubles swiftly in little under 30 minutes, winning 6-2 at no. 1, 6-1 and no. 2 and 6-1 at no. 3 to earn the first point of the match. Andres Meneses and Ian Nieh partnered at no. 3 for their first doubles match together this year and earned swift victory to make the most of Head Coach David Goodman's pairing.

"It feels good to get the win and give some guys opportunity to play," said Goodman. "Ian and Andres playing no. 3 doubles was a good debut. It was really good for them."

With Willamette coming all the way down from Oregon the teams wanted to get in as much tennis as possible so they played an exhibition fourth doubles match, with David Garcia and Quentin Lau getting a win. The teams also played out all six singles matches, rather than playing to clinch which has been customary this year.

Quentin Lau had the fastest single match in recent memory at the BTC. He beat his opponent 6-0; 6-0 in the no. 5 spot to finish almost an hour before the rest of the match reached its conclusion. Lau brought his singles mark to an even 2-2 with the win.

Matchups 3-6 all finished relatively quick in singles, with the Eagles winning all of them in straight sets and seeing no Willamette player win more than two games in any of those sets.

The closer matches came at no. 1 singles, where Logan Blair was making his top spot debut, and no. 2 singles, where Ian Nieh was making his collegiate singles debut.

Nieh took down his foe 6-3; 6-2 to move to 1-0 on the year. The first three games of both sets were competitive but Nieh managed to pull away down the stretch to win going away.

"Ian had his first singles match and he played really well," said Goodman. "It was encouraging for us to see him play well there."

After Nieh locked up win no. 6 for Biola it all came down to Blair and his opponent on the main court. The sophomore won his first set 6-3 but was trailing his second set 5-4 when all eyes became tuned on him as the last match playing.

He dug deep and took all three of the final games played, twice breaking serve to get the job done. It's his third singles win of the season, improving his overall mark to 3-3.

"This is the first time he's played no. 1 for us. It was a good education for him, with a different level of play coming at that position," said Goodman. "I thought he focused well at the end of the match and really did what was needed to come through."

The win helps Biola improve to 4-3 on the young season. They continue play with today's 4 p.m. matchup against Saint Katherine. Follow live results of that match at https://biola_ftp.sidearmsports.com/custompages/mten/LIVE/xlive.htm
