Austin Excellent Again

Biola gets another shutout win in game one vs. Hawaii Pacific.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Paige Austin seems to have mastered the art of pitching to the Hawaii Pacific Sharks. Following today's 2-0 complete game victory the sophomore hurler now has 17-consecutive scoreless innings registered against HPU.

She won game one on Monday with a complete game shutout and followed that up with an even better performance on Tuesday, throwing exactly 100 pitches and limiting base on balls to just two while holding the Sharks off the board.

Biola scored a single run in the first inning and single run in the fifth inning in support of Austin's effort. The Eagles were facing just as tough of a pitching performance on the other side as HPU's Jordan Curry matched Austin almost step-for-step for the second-straight day.

Biola was limited to just four hits on the afternoon, but it made the most of the few opportunities it did manage to get.

In the first inning, Kayla Neff walked and was moved to third by a groundout and another walk and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch with what would turn out to be the game-winning run.

Biola stranded two runners after Neff scored in the first inning. The Eagles stranded eight runners over the course of the game, but were able to convert when it mattered the most to buy Austin a little breathing room later on.

The Eagles' insurance run came home in the form of Jennifer Morinishi in the bottom of the fifth inning. The freshman reached by a hit-by-pitch and later came around to score on a Kayla Neff single to shallow left field.

Two more Eagles reached scoring that inning but were left standing on second and third base.

After the additional scoring, Austin went out and gave up a HPU lead-off single in the sixth before setting down the final six batters of the game in order.

Once again it was the top of the BU lineup that produced the most for Biola, with the first three hitters in the lineup accounting for three of the Eagles' four hits.

Biola improves to 9-8 (4-3 PacWest). The loss drops Hawaii Pacific to 17-14 (11-6 PacWest). The two teams finish off their series with the second game of this doubleheader, set for a 6:30 p.m. start time.
