LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola was blessed with production from numerous positions up and down the order during its three-game win streak last week. The Eagles averaged 10 runs per game over those three wins and have achieved that success with excellent at-bats from the entire lineup that leads to big innings. During the three-game span, Biola has collected 22 walks compared to only 15 strikeouts and scored at least four runs in an inning during each of those games. The remarkable thing about those innings in that Biola only got one extra-base hits during those crooked innings, a two-run homerun by Ryan Gallegos against Vanguard lat Tuesday that came after Biola had put a four-spot up against the Lions. Other than Gallegos' homerun, the Eagles used nothing more than singles, walks and hustle for their big innings against San Diego Christian. That might carry some major importance for Head Coach Justin Duarte's group headed into this week, as they won't have to wait for one particular hitter to step to the plate in order to do some damage.
The Eagles also saw several strong pitching performances last week and have definite confidence in their arms headed into their first meeting with conference opponents. Anthony Villegas and Honus Kindreich both had shutdown relief appearances that were crucial in the Eagles comeback victories. And starters Troy Stainbrook and Kenny Carillo both attacked the strikezone with solid fastball-slider combinations that resulted in weak contact and strikeouts. Stainbrook recorded eight k's in 4.1 innings of relief last week while Carillo collected Biola's first win from a starter with five innings of three run ball on Monday. The righty only needed 68 pitches to record five strikeouts, five flyouts and five groundouts. Â

The Royals have gone 2-2 since defeating the Eagles two weeks ago in Biola's home opener, splitting a doubleheader with Cal Poly Pomona and defeating Saint Katherine before losing to Westmont in non-conference action. The Royals start GSAC play this weekend at San Diego Christian, so that might affect who pitches against the Eagles on Tuesday, but Hope's bat will still be a threat with their scoring average of 7.3 runs per game. After hitting a homerun against Biola in their first meeting, catcher Sam Cohen has hit four more roundtrippers, including two on Saturday against Westmont, to up his total to seven homeruns through 10 games. The Royals have 16 homeruns as a team but are still prone to striking out, with an average of 8.5 strikeouts per game.

The Sharks won't have to leave Hawaii until March and have made themselves very comfortable on the islands with an 11-3 start. Hawaii Pacific is 8-1 at home to start the year and has crushed the ball in its victories. The Sharks have scored at least nine runs in each of their last seven games and have two wins in which they've scored 20 runs. That shakes out to an average of about 12.5 runs per game in HPU's win, but have have scored four runs or fewer in all three of the Sharks' losses. Six men have already collected 15 hits this season for Hawaii Pacific and Jordan Mopas has 25 RBI's on 13 extra-base hits. These games will not count toward either team's conference record, as the Sharks will travel to Eagles Diamond for four PacWest games from April 18 to 20.
