Following a tough loss in their first home match of the season against Concordia, Biola will look to bounce back on the road at Point Loma on Wednesday. Point Loma's best conference win came in the form of a sweep against Concordia Irvine in their first PacWest matchup. The Sea Lions led by junior middle blocker Madie Fox who has posted 124 kills already. They're having to play the season without their most outstanding player from last year, Rachael Schlect, who's out with injury. Last year Biola was swept on the road by the Sea Lions, but returned the favor with a sweep of its own at Chase Gymnasium. The Eagles hold a 43-33 edge in the all-time series and are 6-4 in the last ten meetings. Point Loma is 3-1 at home this season, with their only loss coming in the preseason to Southern Nazarene.

ABOUT LAST WEEK: It was a good start to the week on Wednesday for the Eagles as they traveled to Fresno Pacific and played their best match of the season in a sweep of the Sunbirds. Senior outside hitter
Sabrina Winslow led the Eagles with 10 kills while junior libero
Sami Hover posted 15 digs in the win. This set the stage for Biola's first home conference match as full NCAA Division II members on Saturday against Concordia Irvine. The Eagles stayed close in front of a raucous crowd in the first set, but a tight loss set the tone for the rest of the match as Concordia went on to sweep the Eagles in a tough night for Biola.
IT'S GO TIME: The 2019 Biola Volleyball season has added significance in that it's the Eagles' first as full members in NCAA Division II. Back on July 12 the Biola campus received a call from the NCAA Division II Membership Committee notifying BU of its successful completion of the membership transition process. The change became official as of September 1 and now Biola is officially eligible for NCAA postseason play, national and regional rankings and official NCAA postseason honors for the first time. With no conference tournament, the Eagles will have to finish in the top-8 in the NCAA Division II West Region rankings to be able to get that first taste of NCAA postseason play.

THE ROAD TO 1,100: Biola Volleyball is 1,082-448 (.707) all-time. Biola's averaged 27 wins-per-year in Head Coach
Aaron Seltzer's 17-year tenure. A good season will also put Seltzer within a handful of wins of 500 when the season is all done. He enters 2019 with an all-time coaching mark of 462-139 (.768).
NEW STAFF: Seltzer's coaching staff has doubled from its 2018 size. He and lead assistant
Gracee Teague did it along in 2018 but add
Alex Leja and
Sierra Bauder for 2019. Bauder, of course, was on the team last season and won conference player of the year. Leja is no stranger to Biola, having been groomed as a player and assistant coach at Vanguard University from 2009-15 before serving as head coach at NCAA Division III Alma College from 2016-18.
