AZUSA, Calif. —- Another quick start by the opponent led to Biola Softball's game one loss to Azusa Pacific on Friday afternoon.
The Cougars hit two balls off the base of the fence and scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take a lead they would never relinquish to take a surprise 4-1 victory.
Biola had several opportunities to answer back throughout the course of the game, but could not find a way to scratch out more than their one run.
BU stranded runners on base in every inning from the third through the seventh, accounting for nine total left on base in the game, with a majority of them left in scoring position. Biola outhit Azusa 8-6 in the game.
The Eagles' one run in the game came in the fourth inning when
Areana Ramos scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on a one-out double.
The Eagles were in position to make a comeback all the way up until the last out of the game as
Selina Sherlin stepped into the box as the game-tying run. She had runners on second and third and turned a ball around to hit one hard up the middle. A great bit of defensive reflexes allowed the pitcher to get to the ball and make the final out to hand BU its seventh loss of the season.
It was Azusa's seventh win of the season.
The two teams are racing to get the second half of the doubleheader in before the rain reaches Azusa. Follow along with live stats at portal.stretchinternet.com/APU.
