Senior Day Success

Khadidja Diakite and DeMoria White finished their Biola careers with a 73-56 win over Dixie State.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- If there was one thing Khadidja Diakite and DeMoria White were going to do on Thursday, they were going to make sure they made the most of their senior night.

Diakite and White both started Thursday's game against Dixie State and combined for 38 points to help Biola to its 73-56 victory.

The win is a big one for Biola because it seals a winning record during its first season in the PacWest and as an NCAA Division II institution. The Eagles finish the season with a record of 14-12, 11-9 PacWest after being chosen to finish eighth of 14 teams in the conference preseason poll.

"Throughout the season our team showed the godly character that is typical of Biola students," said Head Coach Alan Nakamura. "We had a rocky start, but the team never panicked, never gave up, stuck together, and looked for ways to turn things around. We made it our goal to be the most improved team in the region, and I think we accomplished that goal."

The Eagles, and White particularly, jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter to make it as difficult as possible for Dixie State to spoil the senior night festivities. Biola made six three-pointers in the first quarter alone and White exploded for 16 points while the Eagles took a 25-8 lead after 10 minutes.

The Trailblazers were limited to three field goals in their first 14 attempts during Thursday's game. And midway through the first quarter, DeMoria White became the Eagles all-time leader in three-pointers made during a career when she drained her second trey of the game. She finished with a total of 251 career threes when all was said and done on Thursday.

"The way we played in the first quarter is what we've been working towards all year," said Nakamura. "The energy and teamwork on defense was excellent and that led to good flow and movement on offense. We made the extra pass and found some great looks."

Biola kept the offense moving over the next two quarters with a total of 37 points. Seven Eagles scored at least two points in the second quarter while Diakite finally got to step into her personal spotlight on senior night by leading the team with seven points in the third quarter. Diakite went 3-for-3 from the field in the third quarter and finished the game with nine points and seven rebounds.

"Tonight Khadidja really showed her ability to defend, grab tough rebounds, run the floor, and get to the rim. It was exciting to see her game on display," said Nakamura. "And Mori did what she has done throughout her career at Biola: she was a coach on the floor, played with a lot of poise and confidence, found her teammates, and knocked down big shot after big shot."

Danielle Kennedy had a great game as the Eagles' second-leading scorer with 14 points. And Biola's entire team had a great rebounding night, out-rebounding the Trailblazers 43-27.

Biola finishes its season by sweeping the season series with Dixie State. The Eagles won 66-56 in St. George, Utah on Jan. 3 and collected series sweeps against three other PacWest teams this season.
