Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Three Range 'Hens

The Sagehens hit 14 threes to bury Biola in Eagles' first road contest.

POMONA, Calif. --- The grind of a three game week, and stretch with five games in nine days, finally caught up to Biola Men's Basketball Saturday night as Biola lost in its first road contest, 92-67.

Biola did not have a bad game, per se. Pomona-Pitzer just happened to have an exceptional one. The Sagehens took full advantage of their season-opener and also home-opener to shoot the lights out from start-to-finish and hang up the most crooked number Biola has handed out all season.

A few defensive breakdowns and some really, really good shooters allowed Pomona-Pitzer to score 93, when Biola came into the night only allowing its previous four opponents an average of 64 points-per-game.

The Sagehens made 68 percent of their shots in the first half, including nine threes, equating to a 53-37 halftime lead that had this Eagles team shaking its heads. Biola had been very efficient in the first half, shooting 55 percent and earning 13 trips to the free-throw line, converting on nine of them.

However, even with all that good stuff the team simply could not keep up with the Sagehens' sharpshooters. What was impressive about the opponent's performance is how it was not just one man getting it done. They had no single player reach single digits in the first half, but instead had nine different players with points

The unfortunate deficit going into halftime caused a bit of a lapse for BU coming out of the break. Biola shot almost 20 percent worse in the second half and could only muster up 30 points.

The Eagles never came closer than within 12 points during the second half, and the team trailed by as much as 30 at points.

Michael Bagatourian would end the game as the Eagles' leading scorer. He was 6-of-8 from the floor in a great showing. He also had three rebounds a pair of blocks and steal. He's showing tremendous growth in the early going this season and should be a big part of what Biola accomplishes come the start of conference play.

Trevor Treinen (12) and Chris Cagle (11) were the other BU players to hit double-digits. Treinen did not have a great shooting night, but he made his free throws and distributed the ball well to keep BU afloat.

For the second time this season, Biola allowed its opponent to reach double-digit steals. The Sagehens swiped the ball from BU 10 times, equating to 18 points off turnovers.

It's time to hit the reset button and focus on the next one for BU, which should be a fun one. The Eagles host Saint Katherine on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving at 7:30 p.m. Biola just hosted USK earlier this week and won the game 90-53.
