Steady In Second

BU wrapped up the No. 2 seed in GSAC tournament with a 2-0 win over The Master's.

Carlos Ballesteros tied the all-time record with his eighth career game-winning goal.
Box Score SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --- Goals from Carlos Ballesteros and Daniel Chew led Biola to a 2-0 win over The Master's on Saturday, cementing their second place finish in the Golden State Athletics Conference, and a first round conference tournament bye.

The Eagles entered play riding a four game winning streak and playing some of their best soccer of the season, as they had not allowed a goal in the last four games. The streak continued as JT Addington tacked on his 10th shutout of the season against the Mustangs.

Biola seemed to be the better team throughout as they were able to contain possession and put a lot of shots on goal, outshooting TMC 8-1.  They took 13 total shots as opposed to The Mustang's three.

Kevin Kiser, Michael Kute and Ryan Cooley anchored the Biola defense that is at the best it has been all season, they each played all 90 minutes of the shutout, going all across the field to snuff out any attempt at offense by TMC.

Sava Pantic found an opening to scoot the ball to Ballesteros just 9:34 into the first half to quickly put the Eagles in a position of power as they held the 1-0 lead.

Just because they had the lead did not mean they would stop attacking as the Eagles took 11 shots after Ballesteros' goal, which turned out to be the game-wining goal. The senior is now tied with Zach Bautista (2008-11) for the program's all-time lead in game-winners with eight.

After TMC's keeper, Kyle Cunningham, was able to keep the Eagles at bay for the rest of the first half with three saves, Daniel Chew stuck his nose to the goal and found his 15th goal of the season off assists from Stephen Campos and Joey O'keefe. One more goal this season would give Chew double his previous season-best goal tally.

The win locked sown second place in the conference as the Eagles finish 13-3-1 (7-3 GSAC) to place one point ahead of San Diego Christian and earn a first round playoff bye. The Eagles will begin their attempt at another GSAC tournament title Saturday, Nov. 9, at home against the highest remaining seed out of No. 3 San Diego Christian, No. 4 Westmont, No. 5 Vanguard and No. 6 The Master's.

The loss dropped The Master's to 4-11-1 (3-7 GSAC).
