Biola Battles Hope to Scoreless Draw

Lauren Gregston made four saves to earn her third shutout of the season

BOX SCORE

FULLERTON, Calif. --- For the fourth time in its last five matches, regulation could not determine the outcome of a Biola women's soccer match. This time, though, even two overtime periods could not determine a victor as the Eagles managed a 0-0 tie against a much-improved Hope International on Wednesday afternoon in Fullerton.

Biola moves to 5-4-2 on the season and 1-3-2 in GSAC play while the Royals move to 8-2-3 overall and 1-2-2 in conference action.

The match proved to be a defensive battle with the teams combining for just 17 shots and seven on net. Hope had a 10-7 advantage in shots, outshooting Biola 6-3 in the first half. But Eagles goalkeeper Lauren Gregston made two of her four saves in the first 45 minutes.

Biola then came up with a 4-3 edge in shots in the second half, including a pair of great chances by Caitlin Peterson in the final 20 minutes of regulation.

There was just one shot in the two overtime periods and it came from Hope's Harmony Pruett, who had a great chance denied by Gregston with just over two minutes left in the second overtime.

Gregston recorded four saves while facing those 10 shots en route to her third shutout of the season.

The match was the third-straight overtime contest for the Eagles and the fourth in their last five matches. Biola is 1-1-2 in those overtime matches and 1-2-2 over its last five.

The tie was the first time Biola failed to beat the Royals in 16 all-time matches. However, Hope is playing great soccer lately, recording eight wins already this season. The Royals have won more than four just twice since joining the GSAC in 1999.

Biola returns to the field on Saturday (Oct. 18), traveling to Azusa to face the No. 3-ranked Cougars in a GSAC match at 3:30 p.m.
