OLATHE, Kan. --- Biola forward Danny Jones was named an NAIA honorable mention All-American which was announced Tuesday before the NAIA National Championship game in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jones, a graduate of Imperial High School, led the GSAC in rebounding, pulling down 268 boards for an average of 8.6 per contest. He also scored 15.2 points per game, finishing ninth in the GSAC in that category. Jones finished in the top 15 in the conference in blocks (22) and in field-goal percentage (56.9).
Jones, who scored 20-plus points on eight occasions, had a season-high 34 points to lead Biola to an overtime win at Vanguard University on Feb. 24, including scoring all nine of the Eagles points in the extra period. In that game, Jones was an impressive 14-of-17 from the field and added nine rebounds.
In the final game of the season for Biola, Jones scored 26 points and had 13 rebounds in the Eagles' 64-53 loss to San Diego Christian College in the first round of the GSAC playoffs.
Jones, one of just two players to start all 31 games for Biola, had averaged just 2.5 and 5.8 points per game during his freshman and sophomore seasons, respectively.
Just four players from the Golden State Athletic Conference were named to the first, second or third teams despite having five teams earn spots in the NAIA tournament.
San Diego Christian's Rowan Gray was the lone representative on the First Team with teammate Drew Sanchez being named to the Second Team. Westmont's Santiago Aguirre and Azusa Pacific's Demario Butler were Third Team representatives.
The NAIA Player of the Year honors went to Jarekus Singleton of William Carey (Miss.), who ranked second in NAIA Division I Men's Basketball in scoring average at 24.7 points per game while his 6.3 assists per game ranked sixth in the nation.
