It was a banner weekend for Biola Swim & Dive as the Eagles took the combined win and men and women's wins at the 2019 Collegiate Winter Invite, hosted by La Verne.
The team set a handful of new school records, led by the swims from freshman Kellynn Hayes who broke two school records by herself. She won two of her four individual events (500-free, 1,650-free) and finished inside the top-5 in all four swims. She also helped the Eagles to relay wins in the 800-freestyle relay and 400-freestyle relay. She swam lead-off in the 800-yard event.
Hayes' school records came in the 500-freestyle and 1,650-freestyle. She broke Emily Silzel's mark in the 500-freestyle by about two seconds with a winning time of 5:03.70. Then, two days later, she manage to break her teammate Katelyn Harper's 1,650-freestyle mark with a 17:43.32. It was a nearly 10-second improvement.
She and the Eagles had a very busy and rewarding three days at ELAC and now get to relax (a bit) for about a month before their next meet in early January.
