On Sept. 5, 2016, Samantha Verduzco earned Athlete of the Week honors for the second time because of her contributions to the Eagles' first two wins of the season. Fast-forward a year to the day and Verduzco finds herself in the exact same place: Biola Athlete of the Week for her goal-scoring in the first two matches of the year.

The senior forward scored two of Biola’s four goals and contributed an assist during the Eagles' two-match road trip to Oregon last week. Verduzco became the first Eagle to insert herself in the books this season when she scored from five yards out in the 25th minute against Western Oregon University. She produced a game winner two days later in the Eagles' overtime victory against Corban, smashing home a cross from Hali Oakes in the 94th minute to push the Eagles to 2-0 on the year.

Verduzco and the Eagles play their first home match of the season on Saturday against CSU San Marcos. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
