Rawley Hughes was a big factor in Biola's series victory this weekend in a non-conference three-game set with Vanguard. The senior catcher reached base during 73 percent of his plate appearances and raked in six hits on the weekend to make a big splash during the second week of the 2017 season.

Hughes hit .667 (6-for-9) and walked twice on the week to result in his .727 on-base percentage. He was 2-for-5 in the first game of the week and then went 3-for-3 and 1-for-1 during the Eagles' Saturday doubleheader. He had one RBI in game one on Saturday and two in the nightcap.

The third-year Eagle is off to a fantastic start to the season, leading the team with a .563 batting average through his first five appearances of the year. He's one of four Biola players to have at least one homerun and is second on the squad with four total RBI.

He and the team are scheduled to be back in action this week with a Tuesday non-conference home game against Marymount and the first Golden State Athletic Conference series of the week on Friday and Saturday, where they host Menlo College.
