Biola University Athletics

Justin Johnson joined the Biola Track & Field staff in the spring of 2023 as the lead assistant coach. He was promoted to associate head coach in spring of 2025.

Johnson came to Biola after serving as the head track & field coach at Westcliff University. While at Westcliff, he made athletic department history by sending its first team to postseason. Johnson guided the cross country team to the NAIA National Championships.

Johnson has extensive coaching experience in explosive track events including sprints, hurdles and specializes in relays. He combines technical coaching expertise with strong recruiting abilities, successfully identifying and attracting talented athletes to build a competitive program.

Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Houston–Downtown in 2012 and received his master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor in 2019.

Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Johnson was a multi-sport athlete in high school who competed in football and track & field. He was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that set the school record.

His favorite Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 13:11.

When asked why he chose Biola, Johnson shared, “I didn't choose Biola—Biola chose me. I was already working at another institution which brought me out to the west coast from Texas. When Biola comes calling, you pick that phone up.”
