Eagles Rack Up All-PacWest Honors

Biola earns three major awards and nine all-conference selections

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team had a strong showing in the PacWest's All-Conference awards, earning three special honors and nine all-conference selections.

Kendall Nakano was the PacWest Player of the Year after a dominant season. Nakano ranked second in the conference in batting average (.411), hits (69) and on-base percentage (.463), while adding 48 RBIs and six home runs. She posted a 1.034 OPS and was a force defensively with a .994 fielding percentage, totaling 287 putouts and 24 assists across 52 starts.

DJ Symons was named the PacWest Pitcher of the Year following a standout campaign in the circle. Symons led the conference in wins (15), strikeouts (125), innings pitched (169) and saves (five). She finished the season with a 2.40 ERA and recorded 17 complete games, four shutouts and held opponents to a .240 batting average.The Senior also earned two PacWest Pitcher of the Week honors this season. 

Freshman standout Lizzie Byer earned PacWest Freshman of the Year honors after making an immediate impact in the outfield. Byer batted .320 with 49 hits, including three doubles and one triple, while scoring 20 runs and driving in 17 RBIs. She posted a .984 fielding percentage across 52 games, showing consistency both offensively and defensively.

Biola's First Team All-PacWest selections were Nakano (first base), Symons (pitcher), Alexa Medley Sheard (shortstop), Jackie Ibarra (outfield), and Lillianna Garcia (designated player).

Sheard anchored the Eagles' infield at shortstop and was a conference leader with the third-most hits (60) and assists (99) in the league. She batted .366, totaled 41 runs, went a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases, recorded 10 RBIs and posted a .435 on-base percentage and .813 OPS. Defensively, Sheard finished the season with a .933 fielding percentage and had 97 putouts.

Ibarra led the PacWest in hits with 74 while batting .383, ranking among the top three in batting average. She started all 54 games, scored 38 runs and posted a .988 fielding percentage in the outfield. She was also a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases.

Garcia was one of the most dangerous hitters in the conference, leading the PacWest in OPS and RBIs. She batted .331 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs while posting a 1.088 OPS and .677 slugging percentage. She was also a PacWest Player of the Week.

The Eagles had four Third Team All-PacWest selections in Ariana Banos (catcher), Leilani Salgado (second base), Kennadie Tsue (third base) and Kayla Bousquette (pitcher).

Banos was a consistent offensive threat behind the plate, batting .322 with 48 hits, 10 doubles and four home runs. She added 29 RBIs and maintained a .988 fielding percentage with 223 putouts and 25 assists. 

Salgado appeared in 44 games with 38 starts, contributing in the middle infield with 108 putouts and 71 assists for a .973 fielding percentage. She tallied 21 hits, including three doubles and one triple, while recording 18 runs and scoring 10 RBIs.

Tsue provided power and production at third base, batting .281 with 41 hits, including six doubles, two triples and three home runs. She totaled 31 RBIs and posted a .979 fielding percentage across 54 starts. She was also a PacWest Player of the Week.

Bousquette rounded out the list as one of the top pitchers in the conference, ranking second in the league wins and innings pitched. She finished the season with a 2.76 ERA and a 16-5 record, totaling 167.1 innings with 99 strikeouts and four shutouts. Bousquette was an NFCA DII Pitcher of the Week and a two-time PacWest Pitcher of the Week.
