Biola Swim Sweeps Triple Distance Invitational

Eagles earn team wins on both sides behind dominant distance, sprint, and stroke performances at Soka Aquatics Center

ALISO VIEJO, Calif --- The Biola swim teams traveled to the Soka Aquatics Center for the Triple Distance Invitational. 

The Biola women turned in a strong showing at the Triple Distance Invitational, posting multiple top-three finishes across all events. Angie Ahmadi-Kashani led the distance group with runner-up finishes in the 200 free (2:02.23), 500 free (5:25.98) and 1000 free (11:09.36), while Julia Hill added a third-place effort in the 200 free (2:07.70) and another podium finish in the 500 free (5:34.13). 

In the backstroke events, Kylie Montiel swiped second in the 50 back (28.26), while Allison Yancey swept the field with a win in the 200 back (2:10.39) and a second-place finish in the 100 back (1:00.02). 

Malia Ciolli dominated the breaststroke races, capturing victories in the 100 breast (1:08.94) and 200 breast (2:29.50), while Coco Friedley, Chloe Colvard, and Simei van Staden delivered solid performances in the individual medley events.

"Big thank you to Adam Crosson for hosting us during the training portion of our trip in Aliso Viejo. Both teams swam with a lot of energy and purpose, and it was exciting to come away with team wins on both the men's and women's sides," said head coach, Nate Harding. "Getting off our home pool deck for a few days was huge for us, and the group really embraced the challenge and intensity of the environment.

On the men's side, Biola showcased depth and speed, highlighted by Koen Vos, who captured first-place finishes in the 50 free (21.35), 100 free (46.92), and 200 free (1:46.06). Benjamin Smith followed close behind with back-to-back runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100 free. Noah Hall and Josh Peace anchored the distance events, placing second and third respectively in the 1000 free, while Hall added a runner-up finish in the 500 free (4:52.23). 

The Eagles also found success in the backstroke events, as Alejandro Marchesini earned victories in the 50 back (24.47), 100 back (52.04), and 200 back (1:57.24). Nathan Griffin swept second-places in all three events behind Marchesini. Jack Snyder led the breaststroke group with a win in the 200 breast (2:17.48) and first-place finishes in the 50 (28.32) and 100 breast (1:01.37), while Andrew Hanson paced the butterfly events with wins in both the 100 fly (53.09) and 200 fly (2:02.72).

In the medleys, Karter McNutt and Anthony Ramirez captured second and third place finishes in the 100 and 200 IM, respectively.

"You can feel the momentum building within this team right now, and the confidence is growing at the right time. We are fired up heading into our final meets and even more excited for an outstanding conference championship and the level of competition we'll see from Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier College on January 23rd and 24th."

The Eagles will be back in the pool on Jan. 23 in Claremont at 3 p.m.
