LA MIRADA --- The opening weekend of the new season came to close on Saturday morning, as the Biola Swim and Dive Team took down the visiting Red Leafs of Simon Fraser. The BU women scored the win, 86-62, while the men won, 81-66, on day two of the weekend.

An electric freestyle relay kicked off Saturday swimming. The men's battle was neck-and-neck down to the final second, as the Eagles found the edge, beating the Red Leafs by two-tenths of a second. Benjamin Smith brought the group home with the final leg for a time of 1:27.59.

The 200 freestyle was the first individual event of the day and Rachel Munch made her mark early. The junior logged a top finish at 1:58.05, sneaking ahead of second place by a margin of .31. On the men's side, BU landed three in the top four spots, as Alejandro Marchesini (1:47.57) and Ronan Watts (1:47.99) went one-two.

Biola continued its streak at the top of the leaderboard, offering the winner in both the 100 breaststroke events. Malia Ciolli wore the crown for the women with a time of 1:08.84, while Jack Snyder snuck away with the win for the men at 58.94.

The 200 IM was a clean sweep for the Eagles, as the podium was all Biola. Allison Yancey cruised to the victory at 2:12.89, while Coco Friedley (2:14.31) and Addison McCullough (2:14.61) rounded it out at number two and three, respectively.

A pair of freshmen scored in the women's 100 butterfly, as Morgan Carles (2nd - 1:01.28) and Kylie Montiel (3rd - 1:02.56) both hit the podium. On the men's side, Simon Fraser grabbed the top spot, but Biola placed three-straight after with Andrew Hanson, Ronan Watts, and Adam Hagan taking second, third, and fourth.

Yancey returned for another win on Saturday, this time in the 100 backstroke. The junior won by .04 seconds with a time of 59.05 and was followed by teammate Chloe Colvard in third place.

More podium finishes came in the 100 freestyle behind the swims of Phoebe Munholland and Munch. Munholland came away in second place at 54.97 and Munch nabbed bronze, while touching at 55.40.

The men's 100 free featured another two-three finish for BU. Andrew Hanson picked up a silver medal with a time of 48.58 and was followed by Ben Smith in third at 49.17.

Biola put its speed in the pool on full display in the 200 medley relays. The men's and women's A teams came out victorious. Allison Yancey, Malia Ciolli, Emilee Elizondo, and Phoebe Munholland joined forces for a mark of 1:49.53. For the men, Alejandro Marchesini, Jack Snyder, Andrew Hanson, and Ben Smith took to the pool for a time of 1:36.07 with Hanson creating the separation with a strong butterfly leg.

The Eagles will return to action at the Rodionoff Invite for diving on Friday and Saturday next week, while swimming sees action at the Redlands Pentathlon Meet on Saturday.
