September 26, 2025

LA MIRADA --- The Biola swimming and diving team opened its 2025-26 campaign with an impressive performance on day one of their dual meet against Simon Fraser, highlighted by dominance in short-distance races and standout diving performances. The Eagles led comfortably after the opening day, with the men ahead 98-68 and the women holding a strong 106-64 advantage.

"It was exciting to open the season with wins on both the men's and women's side and to compete again at Lansing Pool for our home opener against Simon Fraser," said Head Coach Nate Harding. "Our women showed the depth we see every day in practice, and our men stepped up to race every opportunity. We're looking forward to day two with more traditional race distances featuring the 100s, and another strong day of racing."

Biola's women impressed in the relays, taking first in both the 400 medley relay (3:58.63) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:41.54). Individually, the Eagles picked up key points with standout swims from Allison Yancey (1st in 50 back, 27.89), Colette Friedley (1st in 100 IM, 1:02.65), and Malia Ciolli (1st in 50 breast, 31.83). Chloe Colvard and Emilee Elizondo added second-place finishes in the 100 IM and 50 fly respectively, while Emily Sheldon took third in the 500 free.

On the boards, Lauren Smith won both the 1-meter (192.15) and 3-meter (198.75) diving events. Teammate Emily Tuffnell added a second-place finish on the 1-meter at 119.10.

The men's team was led by sprinters Andrew Hanson and Ben Smith, who tied for first in the 50 freestyle (22.08), while Hanson also claimed the top spot in the 50 fly (23.72). Nathan Griffin (2nd in 50 fly, 3rd in 50 back) and Karter McNutt (1st in 100 IM, 54.57) delivered clutch swims, with Jack Snyder adding a runner-up finish in the 50 breast (27.48). Biola also captured first in the 400 free relay (3:14.55), adding to its relay success on the day.

In diving, senior Caleb Pook scored well in both the 1-meter (312.50) and 3-meter (257.10) events to cap off a stellar day for the Eagles.

Biola returns to the pool on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. to wrap up the two-day meet, looking to carry momentum and secure their first win of the season.
