LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team racked up 12 PacWest Conference honors, two were special awards and 10 were all-conference selections.

Head coach Kristin Halte was named the PacWest Conference's Coach of the Year for her incredible leadership over the Biola softball team. Under Halte's guidance, the Biola Softball Program won their first regular season PacWest Conference title, defeated three nationally-ranked teams, won PacWest Team of the Week and had three PacWest Players of the Week. The Eagles are currently ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II West Region and are fighting for a place at the West Regional. BU also has the highest team batting average in the PacWest, best fielding percentage and their pitching staff has the third lowest ERA in the league.

"We are excited to celebrate coach Halte being named the PacWest Coach of the Year," stated senior director of athletics Dr. Bethany Miller. "She leads the softball program with excellence, wisdom, and care, anchoring the team in the Lord, and living out faith on the field and in life. Her steadiness and vision for seeing our student-athletes love the Lord and serve each other is inspiring - it is a joy to have her on our Biola Athletics team."

Kendall Nakano was awarded PacWest Freshman of the Year. Nakano had a standout freshman campaign, leading BU with an on-base plus slugging percentage of 1.117, 14 doubles, 14 home runs, 54 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .707. Her grand total of 14 home runs broke the Biola Softball Program's Single Season School Record for most home runs and tied her for the most in the conference.

"I am so proud of Kendall for receiving Freshman of the Year for the PacWest," stated head coach Halte. "We know that is an incredible honor. Kendall deserves every bit of this honor as she is hard working, humble, and a great teammate.  She not only puts in the work at practice but often hits extra with her dad at home. As coaches, we knew when we first saw her in the recruiting processes she could be an immediate impact player for this program. Again, I am so proud of Kendall for receiving this award and this well deserved."
