Finishing Up

Biola has both teams settle into fourht-place finishes on the final day at the winter invite.

November 23, 2025

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. — A rare Sunday of competition closed out the Collegiate Winter Invite for Biola Swim & Dive. The Eagles men finished the three-day meet in fourth with 950 points, while the women ended up fourth as well with 1,075 points.

The final day of competition included the longest event of the meet, and the thrilling finishing 400-freestyle relay, both of which held highlight efforts for the Biola Swimmers.

Josh Peace began the day with a bang when the sophomore took the win in the men's 1,650 event. Peace turned in a 15:36.87 to win the race by five seconds over the second-place swimmer from Westmont. Julia Hill was the top women's swimmer in the distance freestyle event, she had a lifetime best effort and finished 12th with an 18:05.46.

The men's 400-free relay led the way with a sixth-place finish and time of 3:04.99. The group of Nathan Giffin, Benjamin Smith, Andrew Hanson and Ronan Watts just barely missed a top-5 effort as they were neck-and-neck with a group from Chapman at the finish.

The women's relay landed on the podium, with a third-place effort and 3:28.67. It was less than five-tenths off of the school record. That A-relay group featured Allison Yancey, Morgan Carles, Rachel Munch and Phoebe Munholland.

Yancey ended the meet scoring a team-best 84 points. Coco Friedley was just behind her in bringing in 83 points for her Eagles. Carles, a freshman, had the third most points for the team with 73.

On the men's side it was Griffin leading the way with 79 and Peace added 69 for the team. Samuel Slezak was third-best for BU on the weekend, corralling 58 points toward the team effort.

Griffin's effort was aided by another individual event win on Sunday. He went 1:46.25 in the 100-backstroke to pace the group and break his own school record.

Mailia Ciolli was another Eagle who was so close to an event win on Sunday. She went 2:20.46 in the 200-breaststroke to finish second place behind a UC Santa Cruz Banana Slug swimmer who dominated the event.

Friedley added a fourth-place finish to her slate on Sunday, going :59.45 in the 100-IM to narrowly miss breaking a school record set back in 2017. The time was an all-time individual best for Friedley.

Carles and Yancey showed up big in the 200-backstroke. The freshmen went  2:03.06 to finish second, while the junior went 2:04.17 to end up third.

Freshman Watts was the quickest male swimmer for Biola in the ultra-fast 100-freestyle. He went :47.25 to place 12th of the 24 swimmers in the finals. Twelfth was also the top swimmer for Biola in the women's 100-free. That spot belonged to Munholland who went :52.83, which is about half a second off her top time in that particular event.

The close of this weekend is the end of the competition in the pool until the first week of January, when Biola hosts Westmont and The Master's for a dual meet. The distance swimmers will have some action ahead on December 13 when they once again take on an open water meet. This time the group travels to Florida to compete at the CSCAA Open Water Championships.
