Routine Work

The Eagles took care of business on Monday, defeating Holy Names at the Biola Tennis Center.

LA MIRADA --- Biola women's tennis returned to the winning column on Monday on their home court. Only one point went to the visitors, as BU (3-3) triumphed over Holy Names (1-6) in a 6-1 showing.

Monday's matchup was important for the Eagles, who entered the day on a three-match losing streak. The win over HNU came with a clean sweep in doubles and five-of-six wins in singles play.

Doubles play indicated a good day for Biola in the early week matchup. All three sets went the way of the host squad, including a solid 6-2 win for Colbeyshae Emery and Brooke Fager. Amelia Kitts and Alexandria Mann combined for a 6-3 victory on court no. 3, giving BU the doubles point.

The singles portion of the match saw more routs from the Biola squad. Four of the five BU wins came by way of straight-sets, including a total of three 6-0 sets.

On court number one, Emery put together a comfortable performance at 6-0, 6-1, while Lilly McNeill went 6-2, 6-0 on court no. 3. Mann flipped McNeill's scoreline, defeating her opponent, 6-0, 6-2 in no. 4 singles.

Gaby Carvajal tacked on a nail-biter victory in her matchup on court five. The junior split the first two sets, going 7-5 and 4-6 through the opening two sets. Since the match was already clinched for the Eagles, Carvajal went to a ten-point tiebreaker to determine the winner. The two foes continued to battle evenly but it was Carvajal to push ahead at the end, winning in the final set, 10-8.

Julia Vartuli saw her collegiate debut, playing in singles on court six.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday, battling No. 1 Barry at the Biola Tennis Center.
