Exciting Exhibition

The softball team played an exciting exhibition game against Westcliff where they won 2-1 in overtime.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Softball team played an exciting exhibition game against Westcliff on Saturday evening where they took home a 2-1 extra-inning win. Although the game didn't count for their overall record and statistics, it was a great way for Biola to open the season.

Westcliff got off to a strong start, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Eagles struggled to make their way onto the board, staying silent until the sixth inning. In the sixth, Abie Nowak got a rally started with a one-out double. Abie Nowak was then replaced by pinch runner Madison Riley who advanced to third off a wild pitch and was then scored by Brie Nowak who poked a single to left field.

A scoreless seventh sent the teams into extra innings where they battled it out until the 10th inning.

Riley Ruvalcaba began the inning with a walk and was advanced to second off of a hard single by Jennifer Morinishi. A fielder's choice then gave the Eagles one out with runners on first and third. Freshman Colby McClinton continued the inning with a hard fought battle in the batter's box that turned into an eventual walk.

With bases loaded, Brie Nowak did her job with a sacrifice fly that scored Ruvalcaba as the game winning run, 2-1.

Two freshmen made their debut in the circle tonight with Kayla Bousquette getting the start. Bousquette put in four innings of work and had two strikeouts, allowing one run to score off of two hits.

DJ Symons came in the fourth and tossed an inning, followed by Kylee Messmer who also threw one. Raylene Roybal took over in the seventh and closed out the game for the Eagles, throwing five innings with three strikeouts, 11 groundouts and one flyout.

Biola plays their first countable game of the season on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m. against Northwest Nazarene.
