Bringing our Best

Biola collected seven personal-best marks on Saturday, capping off the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.

SAN FRANCISCO --- The Mike Fanelli Track Classic came to a close on Saturday at San Francisco State. The BU group logged three top-10, four top-15 and seven top-20 placements through two events and four races.


The BU athletes took to the track in the one mile run and the 800m race. Biola offered up four combined runners in the one mile and seven in the 800 to finish the three-day meet.

Lynette Ruiz continued her strong weekend with a bronze placement in the mile. The freshman tallied a time of 5:09.91 in section 1 for the top-three finish. Keira Coye added a sixth place run for BU, coming in at 5:18.49. Kaela Berretta was the final competitor for BU and recorded a personal-best time of 5:22.09 for eighth.

Next on the track, Jacob Shirota took his shot at the mile. The freshman finished in 12th overall and sixth in section 2 with a 4:31.87 time.

The 800 was full of performances that topped their respective collegiate-bests. All three Biola men posted personal-bests, including Aidan Arredondo, Aidan Tomasini, and Will Durrance. Arredondo nabbed 17th with a time of 1:56.53 and Tomasini grabbed 19th with a time of 1:57.05 for his second personal-best of the weekend. Durrance tacked on a 24th place showing for BU at 1:57.84.

The strong times continued with Hannah Champness, who crossed the finish line at 2:15.95. The time was a personal-best for Champness, as she finished in 16th. More personal-records came in from Kenzie Elliott and Jordan Gossett, who each nabbed one earlier this weekend. Elliott placed 21st in the 800 at 2:18.38 and Gossett finished 24th at 2:19.59. Hailey Schadt rounded out the group with a time of 2:27.27 for 42nd place.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
