Leaps and Bounds

The Eagles continued their long distance and heptathlon advances at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday.

AZUSA, Calif. --- Biola eased on down the road on Thursday, taking on day two at the Bryan Clay Invitational. 15 Eagles showed off their talents between the 5000, 800 and heptathlon.


Joley Sproul and Rebeka Preston returned for their final three events of the heptathlon. Preston's best event of the day came in the 800, as she competed in group A with a total of 4909 points. The senior came in 13th with a time of 2:24.75 in the 800 for 758 points. Field events of javelin and long jump preceded the 800. Preston finished in 19th place in both events, tossing the javelin 31.63m and making a jump of 5.50m. In group B, Sproul posted personal-records in the 800 and long jump at 2:25.32 and 5.07m to help her collect 4165 total points.

Lynette Ruiz continued her strong freshman campaign with an attempt in the section five of the 5000 open. The freshman posted a sub-17:00 time to finish 16th in her heat amongst nearly exclusively NCAA DI competition. Her mark of 16:59.45 was good enough for a personal-best for Ruiz.

The men's 5000 featured Ryan Sorensen, who posted a personal-best time at 14:54.17. Sorensen finished in 51st place, before teammate Jared Donnel in 66th at 14:58.89.

Back to the women's 5000, a pair of Eagles notched top-40 placements in the open B section. Grace Catena was 30th with a time of 17:58.07 and Keira Coye came in 33rd with a personal-best time of 18:03.00. 

Close to 200 competitors filled the field in each of the women's and men's 800 on Thursday. Kenzie Elliott offered the top finish for Biola, coming in at a personal-best time of 2:15.92. Aidan Tomasini and Will Durrance added their best times as Eagles in the men's 800, coming in at 1:56.99 and 1:57.27, respectively.

Biola will wrap up competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday with events beginning at 9:00 am.
