AZUSA, Calif. --- The Bryan Clay Invitational kicked off at Azusa Pacific on Wednesday, seeing the heptathlon, decathlon and distance races hit the track. The field featured a majority of NCAA Division I teams with a mix of division II and III getting in on the action.

The heptathlon began on Wednesday, as three groups opened competition with four events. Biola offered up one participant in group B and one in group A, as Joley Sproul and Rebeka Preston took on a tough field of competitors.

Preston posted a personal-best mark in the high jump with a jump of 1.64m, which was good enough to tie for 14th. In the shot put, the senior logged a throw of 10.28m for 23rd place. Preston finished in 20th in the 100 hurdles and 200 dash with times of 15.08 and 26.18, respectively. The four finishes earned Preston 2943 points to put her at 21st place in group A.

In group B, Sproul hit the track with times of 15.82 and 27.77 in the 100 hurdles and 200 dash. The freshman added a 19th place high jump of 1.52m and a shot put toss of 8.72m to collect 2475 points for 25th place overall in group B.

The night ended with the 3000 steeplechase. Charles Bailey cut four seconds off his college-best mark in the race, crossing the finish line at 9:40.21. The time was good enough for 58th place.

Biola will be back to it on Thursday for day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational beginning at 7:00 am.
