The long distance group for the Biola track and field squad performed at the Oxy Distance Carnival on Saturday.

LOS ANGELES --- The talented distance runners for the Eagles took part in an evening meet at Occidental on Saturday. The group tallied a pair of top-10 finishes with races ranging from 1500m to 10000m.


Lynette Ruiz collected the best placement for Biola on the day, nabbing fourth in the 5000m run. The freshman crossed the finish line at 17:11.03 in her first attempt at the 5000m at a collegiate meet. Grace Catena and Britta Holmberg also logged sub-18:00.0 times to nab 17th and 25th place, respectively.

In the 3000 steeplechase, Charles Bailey showed out for BU. Bailey nabbed a time of 9:44.55, cutting 10 seconds off his previous best to land at No. 7 in the field of 30 participants.

All three competitors in the 10000 run for Biola took 16th place or better. Caroline Stetina led the way in 12th place at 40:52.03 and Julia Knowles kept things moving in 16th at 41:34.72. On the men's side, Aden Wiebers was the lone BU runner, taking 14th place with a time of 32:55.39.

Brady DeHaven and Jerry Baltzer finished back-to-back in the 5000, as the top two Biola runners. DeHaven (14:52.54) came in milliseconds ahead of his teammate Baltzer (14:52.68) to take 53rd and 54th, respectively.

The 1500 race saw the most participants for the Eagles combined between the two events. The women picked up a pair of top-20 placements, including Hannah Champness with a mark of 4:51.41 for 13th place and Keira Coye with a time of 4:53.78. Aidan Tomasini displayed a strong pace for the men, nabbing 20th with a time of 4:01.79.

Biola track and field will be back in action at the Point Loma Invitational on Saturday, March 19.
