IRVINE, Calif. --- Biola Softball got one more crack at undefeated Concordia University Irvine on Thursday evening under the lights, but the Eagles' bats could not muster much offense in a 5-0 loss. Concordia improved to 22-0 with the win, while Biola will go back to the drawing board following a fourth-consecutive loss.
Similar to game one, the Concordia bats were nothing too special outside of one big inning. The hosting Eagles put up three runs in the third inning, all coming off a three-run blast by their standout power hitter Missy Nemeth. Nemeth's fourth big fly of the year made it 4-0 at the time and immediately changed the tone of what had been a competitive game.
Biola managed just four hits total in a complete game effort by CUI's NCAA Division I transfer and game one winner, Kaitlin Entrup. Entrup had a solid, but not dominant, effort in the win, striking out only two Biola batters while getting a mix of 10 ground ball outs and nine fly outs.
Each of Biola's first three batters in the lineup managed one hit and
Bridgette Trujillo added another to account for the Eagles' four total. Biola's best opportunity to score came in the top of the third inning as they loaded the bases with no one out. A pair of ground outs ended that threat, and the next inning was when the Nemeth blast occured and completely sucked the wind out of the BU sails.
Biola did not get a runner into scoring position the rest of the game and went down 1-2-3 in the sixth and seventh innings.
The Eagles will brush this series off as the team fell to 10-9 (5-5 PacWest). Concordia improved to 22-0 (10-0 PacWest). Up next for Biola is finally a return to home cooking. The Eagles begin a stretch of 14-consecutive home games when the host Azusa Pacific (12-9, 6-2 PacWest) on March 19.
