BU Scores Second-Straight Shutout

The Eagles took down The Master’s on Monday in a 3-0 rout, maintaining their scoreless pace through two contests.

LA MIRADA --- BU returned to Al Barbour Field on Monday, competing in another exhibition match. The night contest heavily favored the Eagles, as they knocked off the visiting Mustangs, 3-0.

A clean sheet on Monday propelled BU's season scoring differential to a phenomenal 7-0 mark. Back-to-back wins and shutouts have the BU squad off and running for the 2021 campaign.

Luis Rodriguez was the man in goal for the shutout on Monday. The senior collected two saves on the way to his sixth-career clean sheet.

The defensive support was incredible, as it featured a rotation of Eagles. Izaac Zausch and Lawrence Kwazema anchored the backline, not allowing any momentum up the middle for the Master's offense.

The match began with both teams playing very physical, leading to a yellow card for each team. Theo Le Calve fought through the contact on a run towards the left side of the box and launched a shot past the diving goalie for an unbelievable score. Le Calve opened up the scoring and gave BU a 1-0 lead with his big left-foot tally.

Less than a minute later, Gabriel Berthoud posted another goal for the Eagles. The forward pushed up on the Mustang defense and took advantage of lackluster ball handling. Berthoud stole the ball and dribbled by the goalie, giving Biola a quick 2-0 lead in the 24th minute.

The ball was consistently at the feet of Biola on Monday. The host squad dominated the possession battle, holding the ball for 73 percent of the match compared to 27 percent for The Master's. Better ball control resulted in more opportunities for BU, including seven more shots and five more shots on-goal.

Ruben Neubauer hit the dagger in the 74th minute, eliminating nearly all hope for the Mustangs. Nuebauer crashed in and converted an Adam Jones cross to give the team its third and final goal.

Biola will return to action on the road in an exhibition against Westmont on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
