Comfortable Return Home

After 10 days between home matches, Biola Women’s Tennis returns to the Biola Tennis Center with a 5-0 win.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Women's Tennis concluded its longest break between home matches of the season on Monday, hosting University of Saint Katherine at the Biola Tennis Center 10 days after the Eagles had defeated Stanislaus State 4-3.

Head Coach David Goodman's group looked strong and well-rested after getting a few days off for Spring Break, racing to a 5-0 victory over the Firebirds that took just one hour and four minutes to complete.

The Eagles move back to .500 at 7-7 on the year and have now won four home contests in a row after the win over USK.

The Eagles only needed one doubles match and two singles matches to clinch because of the short-handed, five-woman Saint Katherine lineup. Both doubles pairs played strong, but the No. 1 team of Lauren Lee and Colbeyshae Emery bageled their opponents to clinch the doubles point.

This was the first doubles match Lee and Emery had played with each other. But it worked out as both women won their first doubles match since the Stanislaus State victory.

Emery went onto post a few more love sets, as she completed her 6-0, 6-0 match in about 30 minutes and didn't lose a point on her serve the entire singles match.

Three other Eagles also won their first 11 games of their singles match to help BLT end the match rapidly. It soon became a race between Ines Diaz, Anna Hartmann and Lily Waterhouse on who would finish first to clinch the match and end play for the day.

As it happens, Waterhouse and Hartmann legitimately finished their match at the same moment and both earned credit for wins that gave Biola five points on the day. But the announcement of the clinch moved too quickly for Diaz to play her last point or two and wrap up her singles on court two: the Spainard had to walk away with a 6-0, 5-0 lead.

The singles wins were the first of the year for Hartmann and the third in a row for Waterhouse, who remains one of two women on the Eagles' roster who have not lost a singles decision this year (Faith Grisham being the other).

The Eagles were scheduled to play their next match on Tuesday against Fresno Pacific, but the match has been cancelled due to consistent rain in Tuesday's forecast. So Biola will start its tour of NCAA DII opponents this coming Monday, when soon-to-be PacWest peer Colorado Mesa comes to the Biola Tennis Center for a 2 p.m. match.
