LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Soccer's main pursuit this week will be turning its in-match production into satisfying results when the final horn sounds.
The Eagles did a number of things over their first two matches that any side would want to build on and start their season with. Head Coach Todd Elkins' group was the side playing downhill at Point Loma during the first half of their season opener, carrying a 9-to-4 advantage in total shots headed into the halftime break. Then Biola took the attack up a level and scored back-to-back goals in about a 30-second span to take a two-goal lead over Northwest Nazarene.
Hopefully those signs mean the next order of business is getting in the win column, and preferably in their next match since Biola hosts Cal State San Marcos

BIOLA (0-2) vs Cal State San Marcos (1-1): Wednesday, Sep. 11 at 7 p.m.\\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
Biola will continue its long-standing rivalry with the Cal State San Marcos Cougars on Wednesday, making it the 11th-consecutive year the Eagles have squared off with CSUSM in non-conference play. And it's a particularly engaging, back-and forth rivalry: all 12 meetings between the Eagles and Cougars have been decided by one goal or less and teams are both 3-3-3 over the last nine meetings. Cal State San Marcos has taken the last two matches, however, winning 3-2 at home last year and 2-1 at Al Barbour Field two Septembers ago.
CSUSM was picked 8th out of 13 CCAA men's soccer teams in the conference preseason poll but delivered surprising results against PacWest school in the first week of the season. The Cougars shutout No. 25-ranked Fresno Pacific 3-0 at home on Sept. 5 and gave No. 11 Azusa Pacific a run for their money at the Cougar Soccer Complex when they tied the game at 1-1 in the second half before losing 2-1. Freshman forward John Williamson has three of the Cougars' four goals and is the ballast of their attack. Cal State San Marcos only has two other players who have attempted more than one shot this season.
BIOLA (0-2) at UC San Diego (2-0) : Saturday Sep. 7 at 2 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
The Tritons had even more success against PacWest opponents last week than San Marcos did, scoring five goals against Concordia and two against No. 25 Fresno Pacific without conceding any. UC San Diego is now undefeated in its last 13 match at the Triton Soccer Stadium and begins the week with two multi-goal scorers in Jon veigar Kristjansson and Brett Jones. UCSD was the third ranked team in the CCAA Preseason Poll and received a first-place vote after a 13-4-2 season a year ago. The Tritons defeated Biola 1-0 to open up the 2018 season and are 17-10-2 against the Eagles all-time. But Biola still has a number of players on its roster who were part of the impressive result against UCSD in the 2017 season when Biola opened in first NCAA DII season with a scoreless tie against the then No. 4-ranked Tritons.
UCSD does not charge admission for home soccer matches. More information about the Tritons' soccer facility can be found on their facility page.
