Eagles Win Third-Straight

Biola Women’s Tennis climbs over .500 at 8-7 with an 8-1 win on the road over Saint Katherine.

SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- The Eagles picked up their first road win of the year on Friday in an 8-1 victory over the Saint Katherine Firebirds at Mira Costa College.

Head Coach David Goodman's group swept all three doubles points under the NAIA tennis rules used in the match and took five of the six singles matches to move to 8-7 on the year. The new win total is the most in a single season for the women's tennis program since 2010 when Biola won nine matches, and this year's group still has four matches plus the PacWest Tennis Championships to surpass that mark.

The Eagles completed their 3-0 week even with a shakeup in their lineup. Biola submitted three doubles pairs that had not played together this season against the Firebirds and won at all three flights to create a commanding lead. The team of Lily Waterhouse and Allison Torres along with Tinisee Kandakai and Sarah Morgan each won their doubles match by a score of 8-1. Then Lauren Lee and Ines Diaz wrapped up their match with an 8-3 win a few minutes later.

Lee and Torres both picked up their eighth doubles win of the year on Friday, tying them for the team-lead in that category. In the meantime, Diaz had an excellent day at the No. 1 position. The Spaniard got her first victory at No. 1 doubles with the 8-3 result alongside Lee and then went on to win her first No. 1 singles match of her career with a 6-4, 6-1 straight-set victory.

Diaz win ended up being the fourth singles match to go final as Biola rolled to wins on courts four through six. Madison Swaney at four and Sarah Morgan at six each went love-and-love in their singles victories, the second on the year for both women. Lauren Lee surrendered a game in her first set but quickly took absolute control in the match to win her four-straight singles decision.

Biola's final point of the day came from Tinisee Kandakai, who earned her first singles win of the season with a close 7-6, 7-5 victory at the No. 2-flight.

The Eagles will head back out on the road on April 4 to face Concordia in Newport Beach at 2 p.m.
