Eagles Complete The Sweep

A Kayla Neff walk-off lifts Biola to 10-2 run-rule win.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Keeping with the script from day one of their conference series Biola and Chaminade battled through a tight first game before the Eagles cruised to a run-rule win in the nightcap. The Eagles scored three fifth-inning runs to end the game in a walk-off on Tuesday as Kayla Neff doubled, drove in two and brought the game to its final score of 10-2.

The Eagles scored 29 runs over the course of the four-game series, sweeping Chaminade to improve to 11-5 in PacWest Conference play this season.

Biola took the lead with two runs in the first and two runs in the second and the game was never in doubt behind the capable arms of Kaile Chavez and Jennifer Morinishi.

Chaminade scored a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth but left eight runners stranded on base throughout the contest to allow Biola to take advantage of the eight-run mercy rule.

Biola posted five hits and six runs in the fourth and fifth innings to lock the game down and secure the series sweep. Chavez would get the pitching win to move to 1-0 on the season. She threw three innings of one-run ball until Paula Damas came in to work the final two innings and close the door.

Biola scored its 10 runs on the merit of 10 hits, five walks and a hit-by-pitch. Andi Hormel took the HBP, her second of the day, as one of the three times she reached base in this second game. Hormel came around to score all three times she reached, leading the team in that category. She was also the one to finish the game when she touched home plate as the Eagles' 10th run.

Kayla Neff also scored multiple runs (2) and led a Biola top of the lineup that was lethal. Neff, Hailey Boyett and Areana Ramos combined to post seven hits, six RBI and four runs scored. Four of those RBI came from Neff who posted four-plus RBI for the third-consecutive week.

Six of Biola's 10 hits went for extra bases, including triples from both Neff and Ramos. Neff also had two doubles in the game helping her record nine total bases in the game.

Aside from the offense Biola really flashed the leather in the nightcap, recording a zero-error game for the second time in the series.

Head Coach Nikki Udria has this team firing on all cylinders right now, locking down its sixth win in a row and 13th of the last 16 ballgames. The Eagles improve to 16-10 overall and 11-5 in conference.

The team has a short break before picking conference competition right back up with a doubleheader at home against Azusa Pacific (12-12, 9-7 PacWest) on Saturday, April 6.
