February 19, 2019

BEAUMONT, Calif. --- The Biola Eagles kept their 10th place position on the final day of the CSUSB Coyote Classic, completing their tournament-best score of 301 in the second round before rounding out the tournament with a solid 308 over the final 18 holes.

The Eagles finished 13 strokes ahead of the team finishing in 11th place and had two men appear in the top-20 of the final individual leaderboard. Austin Bishop wrapped up the final four holes of his second round with two birdies to card a 71 for the second-straight tournament before concluding his tournament with a +5 and an 18th-place finish.

"The team played really well in spurts, especially the first nine holes of the final round. The conditions were difficult with the cold temperatures and snow during the second round on Monday, but there were some low scores out there," said head Coach Cory Page. "The temps never got above 44 degrees, so the players had to layer up the clothing which made it challenging to swing the club. Overall, the guys made some positive strides in certain areas of their games, we just weren't as sharp as we could have been. Obviously, the rain back home has hampered some of the practice and preparation for competition, but I'm confident these guys will bounce back in their next event. We are looking forward to hosting our tournament at Bear Creek next month."

Kyle McAbee was close behind Bishop with a +6 that tied him for 20th place after he recorded seven birdies on Tuesday, including six in the third round. McAbee moved up seven spots on the leaderboard on the final day despite hitting a double bogey on holes three and four. He immediately made up for it with three birdies over his next five holes to help bring him to an even-par 72 for the playthrough.

Dominic Ariondo came in 45th place after carding his best three-round score of the year at 231. That was a an 11-stroke improvement on Ariondo's previous season-best over 54 holes and his score of 76 in the third round is his best single-round mark since the Nov. 7, 2018 dual match against La Verne.

Scott Hatfield also saved his best for last, carding a personal-best 83 at the tournament to est teammate Karson Dreher by 11 strokes. Dreher's best round came in the first playthrough with a score of 84 and he collected two birdies during the tournament to turn in a 265.

The Eagles will be back in action very quickly as they travel to Carson on Friday for a dual match against Marymount (CA).
