LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Soccer still has an undefeated PacWest record at 2-0-2. Granted the Eagles probably hold themselves to the expectation that they should be 4-0 since they had command of both matches that resulted in draws. But the only other team in the PacWest that can say it still hasn't lost in conference play is the No. 1 team in the nation, Azusa Pacific, so Biola is in pretty exclusive company.Â
Â
The Eagles have certainly settled into consistent excellence in the defensive half of the pitch, having posted shutouts in each of their last three matches to help goalkeeper JD Gunn to his second PacWest Freshman of the Week honor this past Monday. Head Coach Todd Elkin's group also found another early goal in Saturday's 1-0 win over Notre Dame de Namur, with striker Leo Thompson scoring in the third minute. In the five matches the Eagles have played in October, six of their seven goals have come in the first 30 minutes of their contests. Look for Biola to keep pursuing early goals in their fixtures that begin with Hawaii Hilo on Saturday.Â

BIOLA (4-4-3, 2-0-2 PacWest) vs Hawaii Hilo (2-7, 1-3 PacWest): Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.\\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
Hawaii Hilo has given up the second-most goals allowed in the PacWest (29) as it comes to Al Barbour Field and has lost three matches by four goals or more this season. Nine Vulcans have scored for Hawaii Hilo so far this season, so UHH isn't depending on one striker as it has in the past. But the Vulcans' success this year has depended more on how much they other teams scores more often than not. Hawaii Hilo has a 1-6 record when opponents score more than one goal and has taken fewer shots on goal than its opponents in eight of its nine matches. The Eagles score multiple goals in three-straight contests a few weeks ago even though they've scored one or none in the three matches since. But Biola has seemed to find its groove in the attack against the Hawaii Hilo, scoring seven times in the two matches the teams have played in the past two years en route to a 2-0 all-time record.Â
All three men who scored in the Eagles' 4-0 victory in Hawaii last year are still on the active roster. Senior Hunter Finnegan got the game winning goal in last year's victory and will be chomping at the bit after not scoring in three matches. Then forward Leo Thompson scored the second and third goal against the Vulcans in a three-minute span early in the second half to secure the match. Thompson scored the game-winner in the Eagles' last match against Notre Dame de Namur and has found the back of the net in four of the last seven matches
BIOLA (4-4-3, 2-0-2 PacWest) vs Hawaii Pacific (4-4-2, 2-2-1 PacWest): Monday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.\\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
The Sharks have been in a bit of a let down of late and having an explosive offense that produced a four-match winning streak against PacWest opponents. Hawaii Pacific scored 15 goals while surrendering just two to opponents in the two-week span during which in went 4-0. But HPU has scored two goals and gone 0-2-1 in the three matches since that surge, including a 2-1 loss to a Dominican team that the Eagles shutout 1-0. The Sharks will look to run the attack through midfielder Gerrit Arzberger, who already has six goals and six assists this season. Arzberger ranks fifth in the PacWest for goals and first in assists. He also started and played 75 minutes against Biola at Al Barbour Field two years ago and was held to one shot.
The Eagles shoutout Hawaii Pacific in double overtime in that match, with then-sophomore center back Jake Munivez heading home the game winner in the 103rd minute to push Biola to 4-2 in PacWest play. Biola then won by the same score in Hawaii the next year, with Luis Rodriguez making nine saves for his clean sheet on the way to PacWest Defender of the Week and eventually Goalkeeper of the Year. Consequently, the Eagles carry a two-match winning streak against the Sharks into Monday's matchup and are 4-4 all-time. BU has also won each of the last two matches it has played on one day's rest while Hawaii Pacific is 2-0-1 in that circumstance this year.Â
BIOLA (4-4-3, 2-0-2 PacWest) vs Chaminade (5-3, 3-1 PacWest): Thursday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.\\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
Chaminade had one of the more impressive starts to conference play and will look to continue its momentum as it starts a four-match swing in Southern California at Concordia on Saturday. After starting the season with two wins in Colorado, Chaminade went on to win its first three conference matches and fell just short this past Saturday against Dominican, 3-2. Colin Roemer and Noah Mokulehua have combined for 11 of their team's 16 goals this season and each man has caught fire for the Silverswords at some point this season. Mokulehua scored in all three wins Chaminade posted to begin the PacWest slate. And Roemer will start his road trip with goals in each of the last two matches after he recorded a hat trick in the first match of the season.Â
The 'Swords have also had the Eagles' number during the first two matches the teams have played as conference opponents. Chaminade came into both matches with a losing record, but registered 1-0 victories both times and limited Biola to three shots on goal in each match.Â
