Biola Swim & Dive has a long history of academic success that just reached a new level.

January 23, 2019

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Biola Women's Swim & Dive edged out Emmanuel (Ga.) with a team GPA of 3.72 to be the top-ranked team in all of NCAA Division II when the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America announced its Scholar All-America programs Tuesday.

Both the men and women's programs earned Scholar All-America status with the women's team making the big splash of being the top team in the nation. Both teams have earned the Scholar All-America distinction each year they've been NCAA Division II members.

"When I got notified by CSCAA that we had been honored as Scholar All-Americans, I was incredible proud of both the men and women's teams," said Head Coach Ryan Kauth. "Swimming is such a demanding sport and being on deck everyday with these athletes allows me to see, first-hand, the difficult balance between academics and athletics. A balance that they handled spectacularly this past Fall. I couldn't be more thrilled to coach such a disciplined group of young men & women."

The women achieved such as high team GPA thanks to two student-athlete having a perfect 4.00 grade point average and half of the team's roster accomplishing a GPA of at least 3.75.

"We are so incredibly proud of the work that all our student-athletes put in to stay on top of their studies," said Associate Athletic Director Eddie Shepard. "To be the top program in all of NCAA Division II is a remarkable accomplishment. We are thrilled!"

Biola is the only NCAA Division II West Region team to appear on either the men or women's top-10 programs. The women's GPA ranks top-5 among all associations of intercollegiate athletics (NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, NCCAA, etc.).

"As we transition to the NCAA Division II level, we have extremely high goals and expectations," said Kauth. "To be on the verge of finishing that process and already on top in terms of GPA could not be a better start for Biola Swimming. It's all as a result of the hard work of these swimmers"

To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, a program must have earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the specified semester. A total of 713 collegiate swimming and diving teams across all NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA Divisions earned the honor in fall of 2018. You can view the entire list by clicking here.
