LONG BEACH, Calif. --- The Biola Eagles incorporated new additions to their team and continued their first week of the 2018-19 season on Friday when they faced the Vanguard Lions for a dual match at El Dorado Park GC.

Head Coach Cory Page's group continued to put forth promising performances for their new head coach and the Eagles beat the first-year Vanguard program by 10 strokes to earn the victory, 294 to 304. Senior Austin Bishop led the way again for Biola with six birdies on the day and an overall score of 68 (-4). Kyle McAbee and newcomer Scott Hatfield followed Bishop with scores of 73 and 75, respectively, to give the Eagles the margin they needed for the win.

McAbee's final score continues to strong start to the season for the senior, who shot +3 at the CA State Intercollegiate earlier the in the week and has carded nine-straight rounds with scores of 77 or under going back to last season. And Hatfield represented himself quite well for contributing a very stead 75 in his first competitive round of golf since high school. But Page also made sure to comment on Bishop's ability to navigate the 6500-yard course by "getting his putter going on difficult greens."

"Austin putted really well today and put himself in great position to make a lot of birdies out there today," said Coach Page.  "I was really pleased to see the guys pick up where they left off on Tuesday by again, shooting another season low score."

Kaden Page rounded out the counted scoring with a 78 and senior Ben Crumley's consistency for the majority of the round was a bit undercut by a triple bogey on 18 that left him with a 79 (+7). And, not to be left out, junior walk-on Karson Dreher also saw his first competition as a Biola Eagle, ending the day with a score of 88.

The Eagles will have a long break from competition before traveling to Hawaii at the end of October for the Dennis Rose Invitational
