Eagles Drop Dual Match

Biola shoots a 313 at the Sierra La Verne CC in its first action after its trip to Hawaii.

November 07, 2018

LA VERNE, Calif. --- Head Coach Cory Page's team hit the course for the first time on Wednesday since returning from the Big Island of Hawaii, traveling to the Sierra La Verne Country Club on Wednesday to face off with the La Verne Leopards in a dual match.

Dominic Ariondo led the way for Biola by shooting a 75 on the par-71 course as the Eagles shot a 313 as a team. After winning a three-day tournament at this course a year ago as the host institution, the Leopards' group used a "home-field" advantage to help them shoot a 281 for the win on Wednesday.

"We hit the ball pretty well today but the greens were incredibly difficult to putt, a lot of undulation and slope. We had several 3 putts out there today," said Page. "After getting off to a poor start, I was happy that the guys hung in there and finished better on their second nine."

Ariondo's 75 is hopefully the sign of good things to come for Biola, as it indicates the senior is returning to form after a brief hiccup with an injury. Ariondo shot sub-75 rounds in his first two playthroughs of the year and this is a nice rebound, three events and seven weeks after he posted those scores.

Austin Bishop and Kyle McAbee were also under 80 strokes, at 78 and 79, respectively. This is the seventh-straight sub-80 round to begin the year for both Bishop and McAbee and both men finished their 2017-18 season with six rounds in the 70's as well.

Kaden Page carded the last countable score with an 81 while Karson Dreher and Scott Hatfield shot 87 and 88 as individuals.

The Eagles used Wednesday's competition as a tuneup before heading to Chandler, Arizona for the ACU Fall Firestorm Invitational that begins on Monday. Biola last competed in that tournament in 2015 and finished in second place out of seven teams.
