Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- For just the second time this season, Biola Men's Soccer has won back-to-back games. The Eagles took down the Westmont Warriors on the road in a 2-0 win on Saturday.
Â
Neither team posted many scoring chances, with most of the game being a struggle for possession and offensive control, but the difference was Biola was able to put away the few chances they did get.
Â
Goals from
True Tamplin and
Joey O'Keefe gave Biola two goals on its three shots on goal. Both goalkeepers did not have much to do between the pipes over the 90 minutes, combining for three saves.
JT Addington earned his third shutout of the season with two of those three saves. The junior keeper also had to deal with five Westmont corner kicks, all in the second half. A stout defensive back line swept away four of those five corners to keep it easy for the keeper.
Â
Vanguard's keeper, Josh Glover, made a save on a
Joey O'Keefe shot in the 30
th minute and then failed to save another shot for the rest of the game.
The first ball he whiffed on came off the foot of
True Tamplin. Tamplin netted his fifth goal of the season on a shot from 25 yards out that sailed right over the head of Glover in the 39
th minute.
Â
O'Keefe got vengeance for his shot earlier in the game that was stopped by Glover by scoring the Eagles' insurance goal with 15 minutes left to play. The junior captain picked up the rebound from a
Stephen Tanquary shot that was blocked by a Warrior defender and scooped it into the back of the net from 16 yards out. It is also O'Keefe's fifth goal of the season, but his first since Biola's 3-3 draw with Concordia on Oct. 15.
Â
With the win Biola improves to 7-5-3 overall and 4-3-2 in conference play. They sit at 14 points in the conference standings, tied with Westmont in fourth place. Biola and Westmont both have one game to play, but Vanguard sits right behind them in the standings with two games to play. The Lions have to face the conference-leading Hope International Royals in their next match though.
Â
Biola travels to William Jessup to close its regular season schedule. The Warriors are currently 5-8-1 (1-6-1 GSAC) and in eighth place in the conference.
