Despite putting up a new season-high 33 shots, the Eagles were shutout by Arizona Christian

It was a frustrating trip to Arizona as despite a plethora of shots no goals came for the Eagles.
Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. --- A tough beginning to the conference season continued on Tuesday as the No. 8 Eagles fell 2-0 in a road match against Arizona Christian.

"The guys created tons of chances, more than any game this year, including some on the goal line," said Head Coach Todd Elkins. "Just couldn't find one, and their keeper had a great game."

Elkins was correct, the Eagles took 33 shots in the game, which is four more than they had in any other game up until this point. They took 14 shots in the first half and were turned aside by five saves coming from ACU's keeper Jorge Arauz.

JT Addington kept pace with Arauz through the first 45 minutes, tallying three saves of his own on far fewer chances coming from the Firestorm.

The teams, both with seven-plus wins entering the game, played each other close through the first half, but went to the locker room knotted at zero. Arizona Christian got their first solid opportunity of the game when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 59th minute. Carlos Villa converted the shot to put the Firestorm up by one.

"We gave up the late PK, but then we had numerous chances to tie it," said Elkins.

The Eagles' desire to tie the game with a score caused them to move more players into the offensive third and push for a goal. This weakened the defense and made it possible to Villa to tally his second score of the game to seal ACU's victory in the 86th minute.

It is a second consecutive heartbreaking loss for Biola who had won seven of eight games prior to these two straight losses.

The result moves BU to 7-2-1 (1-2 GSAC) and makes the Firestorm 9-2-0 (2-1 GSAC).

The No. 8 Eagles look to rebound and refocus this Saturday when they take on Westmont at Al Barbour Field at 4:30 p.m.
