Kris Cook had five hits in seven at-bats for the Eagles

GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Junior Hawkins Gebbers and senior Kris Cook each went 5-for-7 on the day as Biola scored 22 runs on 34 hits in a GSAC doubleheader sweep over The Master's College, winning 13-6 and 9-4 on a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon at Eagles Diamond in La Mirada.

The Eagles are now 28-12 overall and are 18-10 in GSAC play while dropping the Mustangs to 25-15-1 and 13-15 in the conference.

Biola was not intimidated by The Master's pitching staff, which entered the day with the second-best ERA in the GSAC at 3.00 on the season. Instead, the Eagles broke out the bats and batted .466 as a team through the two games.

In game one, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead thanks to a one-out triple by Nick Rotkowitz and a sacrifice fly by Gebbers. They would add two more in the third inning thanks to some sloppy play by the Mustangs.

However, The Master's came right back with five runs in the fifth inning, capped by a three-run home run by Tyler Diamond. But Biola would send 14 batters to the plate and score eight runs in the bottom of the game to go back in front for good. Brent Opdyke gave the Eagles the lead back with an RBI-double which was followed by an RBI-double by Brent Chavez. Cook had the big blow in the inning with a two-run double to cap the scoring.

David West drove in an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with a double–his fourth hit of the game–and Josh Burket added a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth to provide for the game-winning margin.

Biola again jumped out to an early lead in the second game thanks to a two-run single by Gebbers in the bottom of the third inning. The Mustangs scored one in the top of the fourth to make it 2-1. The Eagles again responded with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth with Matt McQueen driving in the second with an RBI-double.

Biola would added two more in the fifth inning as Rotkowitz led off the frame with a double followed by a bunt single by Gebbers. Cook plated Rotkowitz with a sacrifice fly. West and Chavez suceeded Cook with back-to-back singles with Chavez's hit scoring Gebbers to make it 6-1.

Again The Master's closed the gap with three runs in the top of the sixth to make it 6-4, but Cook came through with a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the frame put the game out of reach.

Senior left-handed pitcher Jimmy Johnson was the winner of game one, allowing just four hits and no runs outside of that frustrating five-run fifth. He also added nine strikeouts and improves to 8-2 on the season.

Junior Charlie Gausepohl earned the victory in game two to move to 1-1 on the year, going five innings and allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out eight.

Cook and West each recorded four hits in the first game while Gebbers went 3-for-4 in game number two. Cook was just 1-for-3 in the nightcap but drove in four runs.

Biola remains home this week for a two-game GSAC series against Westmont College on Wednesday and Thursday (Apr. 16-17) with both games beginning at 3:00 p.m.
