BUENA PARK, Calif. — Sarah Jensen and Krista Johnson each collected three hits with Jensen scoring two runs and driving in two more as Biola won the second game of a GSAC doubleheader 5-1 after losing the first game 8-0 to Hope International on Tuesday afternoon at Bellis Park in Buena Park.
The Eagles and Royals both end the day with identical 17-17 overall record, though Biola holds a 4-8 GSAC mark to Hope's 3-7 conference record.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead in the second game with five hits and two runs in the first inning. Jensen picked up a one-out single to get things started. Then, after a pop out, Biola strung together four consecutive hits with Keena Levert driving in two with a long single off the centerfield fence.
Hope scored a run in the second to make it 2-1, but the Eagles would score three more in the fourth inning with a pair of errors by the Royals playing a part. Freshman Erica Moyer opened the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second. Brittany Bury then reached on a fielder's choice with both runners advancing on a Hope error. Jensen then drove in the two with a double down the left field line. Jensen would later score on another error by Hope to make it 5-1.
Emily Gray pitched a strong game for the Eagles, scattering just eight hits and allowing just one run while striking out three. The win was her third straight on the season as she improves to 6-5 on the season. Freshman Kristen Larson pitched the final inning of the game, striking out the side to wrap up the game.
Errors proved costly for the Eagles in the first game as three miscues opened the door for Hope to win 8-0 in five innings. Biola committed three errors in the bottom of the fourth leading to six runs.
Freshman Lyndsie Roberts pitched well, but suffered the loss as she allowed just two earned runs over four innings, but dropped to 7-4 on the season. Meanwhile, Hope's Sabrina Garcia was outstanding in the circle, giving up just one hit over five innings to earn the win. She came back in the second game and gave up just one hit again over the final 3-2/3 innings.
Biola returns home for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 5) against Cal State San Marcos with first pitch scheduled for Noon.
