GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. — Camille Hundley pitched all 18 innings and picked up wins in both games as Azusa Pacific University swept a Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader against Biola by scores of 2-1 and 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Freedom Field in La Mirada.
The Eagles fall to 10-14 and 2-6 in GSAC while the Cougars improve to 14-13 on the season and 5-5 in conference action.
Biola could get little going against Hundley, who allowed just one run on 10 hits over 18 innings to earn the victory in both ends of the twinbill and improve to 8-6 on the season.
Biola committed three errors in the first game leading to a pair of unearned runs for Azusa Pacific. The Cougars scored their first run with two outs in the top of the second as a throwing error allowed Nicole Llorens to score from second.
The Cougars would add another run in the top of the third as a fielding error extended the inning and a passed ball allowed the second run of the game to score.
Biola responded with a run in the bottom of the third as Lauren Gandy led off with a single, stole second and third, then scored on a single up the middle by Sarah Jensen.
However, that would be the last hit of the game allowed by Hundly. She did work herself into a jam in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of walks, but–with runners at first and third and two outs–she was able to get a strikeout to end the game. Hundley allowed just one run on three hits while striking out three to improve to 7-6 on the year.
Biola's Lyndsie Roberts suffered the tough loss despite giving up just five hits and no earned runs and striking out four to drop to 5-2 on the season.
Azusa Pacific scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to break open the second game. Hundley led the inning off with a single followed by a hit to right by Natalie Mickelson. Mickelson's ball was misplayed, though, by the right fielder, allowing her to go all the way to third and scoring Hundley. Erin Halma then plated Mickelson with an RBI-fielder's choice and Bethany Weisser followed with a single to center. The pair was advanced on a sacrifice bunt followed by the big blow: a two-run double by Jen Whitten to make it 4-0.
Biola had a great chance to get back into the game in the bottom of the frame as Erin DaSilva hit a one-out single followed by a double to the leftfield fence by Kristen Larson to put runners at second and third. However, Erika Moyer punched a hot shor grounder right at the first baseman who stepped on the base then threw home to get DaSilva trying to score for the double play.
The Cougars would add another run in the fifth with all the action coming with two outs. Mickelson was hit by a pitch with two outs followed by back-to-back singles to load the bases. Rebekah Weisser then received an RBI the hard way as she was hit by a pitch to force home Mickelson.
Moyer took the loss in the second game to drop to 2-4 on the season.
DaSilva went 3-for-6 for Biola on the day while Jensen finished with three hits in seven at bats while driving in the lone run of the day for the Eagles. In the second game, Larson was 2-for-3 with a single and a double.
Biola begins a six-game road trip with a pair of non-conference games on Friday (Mar. 21) as part of the SunWest Tournament hosted by Chapman University in Orange. The Eagles face St. Thomas University (Minn.) at 5:46 p.m. and Avila University (Mo.) at 8:30 p.m.
