BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. — Elise Paty scored a seaon-high 18 points for Biola, but five players reached double-figures for Westmont as the Warriors swept the season series with a 75-56 win over the Eagles in a GSAC game Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium.
Biola's record dips to 7-19 on the season and 4-12 in GSAC play while Westmont improves to 18-6 and 10-6 in the conference.
Paty's 18 points all came from beyond the arc as she hit 6-of-9 from three-point range on the night. Junior Megann Alberts added 17 points and nine assists for the Eagles while freshman Jessilyn Conicelli scored 10 points before fouling out late in the game.
However, Biola just could not find an answer for the hot-shooting Warriors in the second half. Westmont shot 70 percent from the field, missing just eight shots in the period, outscoring the Eagles 47-23 to erase a five-point halftime deficit and cruise to the victory.
Westmont received 18 points from Amber Stevens to lead five players in double-figures. Alisha Heglund added 13 points while Ali Mooty added 12.
Things started out going well for Biola as the Eagles climbed out of an early seven-point hole and took a 33-23 lead on a Paty three-pointer with 48 seconds left in the half. Westmont went on to score the final five points of the half to trail by just five at halftime.
In the second period, Westmont took back the lead with a layup by Jessica Case 1:30 into the period. Over the next eight minutes there were five lead changes with neither team able to pull away. But the Warriors finally broke through with a 15-0 run to take a 63-51 lead with 4:22 to play and never looked back.
The Eagles had a tough time taking care of the ball, committing 23 turnovers leading to 31 Westmont points. However, Biola was without the services of freshman guard Jenna French, who was unable to play due to illness.
The Eagles begin their final road trip of the season on Saturday (Feb. 23), traveling to Concordia for what should be a big game against their namesakes. The two teams are currently tied for the eighth and final spot in the GSAC playoffs with Biola, one game ahead of San Diego Christian. The winner of Saturday's contest will control its own destiny with just three games remaining after that.
