LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola pounded out 19 hits and scored 17 runs in a 17-5 non-conference win over Cal State San Marcos at Eagles Diamond on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles move to 4-2 on the season while dropping the Cougars to 3-6.
Biola's offense came alive with double-digit runs for the second straight game. The Eagles had four players record three hits each led by Brent Chavez, who went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Catcher Daniel Bodemer added three hits in four at-bats while driving in two while David West also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Matt McQueen rounded out the three-hit quartet with a 3-for-5 day with two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Eagles got off to a quick start with four runs in the second inning with McQueen driving in two with a one-out double.
In the second, Biola sent 13 batters to the plate and scored nine times to break the game wide open. The Eagles opened the inning with five-straight singles. Chris Foreman then was hit by a pitch to drive in a run the hard way. Hawkins Gebbers drove in a pair with a one-out single then, after a strikeout, Biola added three more hits including a two-run single by David West and a two-run double by Chad Pace.
The Eagles added another run in the fourth, then added two more in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cal State San Marcos added an unearned run in the top of the sixth, then plated two more in the seventh on a two-run homer by Louie Russo.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Cougars scored another unearned run, but the Eagles got that back with a solo shot by DJ Harbeson to dead centerfield.
Cal State San Marcos would add another run in the top of the ninth to wrap up the scoring.
A total of 14 pitchers took to the hill at different times during the game including eight for the Cougars. Biola's Bobby O'Neill picked up his first win, allowing just two hits over three innings, while David Julio suffered the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season.
Biola has now outscored the Cougars 55-24 in three games between the two teams over the last two years.
The Eagles return to GSAC play on Wednesday (Feb. 13), traveling to Costa Mesa to face Vanguard University in a single game at 2:00 p.m.
