LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Sophomore Jenna French had a team-high 17 points and was one of four Biola players to score in double-figures as the Eagles downed Dominican University 83-60 in a non-conference game Friday night at Chase Gymnasium.

The victory was the second-straight to open the season for the Eagles who improve to 2-0 while the Penguins fall to 0-2.

French had 17 points--including 11 in the first half--to lead Biola which saw four of its five starters reach double-figures. Junior Chelsea De Luca and sophomore Jessilyn Conicelli added 12 each with senior Megann Alberts adding 10 and nine rebounds.

Biola completely dominated Dominican in the paint, holding a 42-4 edge and outscoring the Penguins 22-2 on fast-break points. Those figures helped offset an uncharacteristic 24 turnovers by the Eagles which led to 25 points by Dominican.

The Eagles jumped out early in the game and never looked back, scoring the first 11 points of the contest before a three-pointer by the Penguins just over four minutes in gave them their first points. Biola would stretch its lead to as many as 18 in the first half before heading to the locker room with a 42-27 advantage.

In the second half, it was more of the same as the Eagles stretched the lead up to 22 points at 58-36 on a three-pointer by De Luca with 12:59 to go. Dominican would cut the lead to 12 with 3:05 to play after a short 6-0 run, but Biola would score the final 11 points of the game to win 83-60.

Alisha Flaaten led the Penguins with 18 points while Raquel Gomes added 12. Dominican hit just seven of its 29 shots from beyond the arc and finished the game hitting 31 percent from the field.

Biola on the other hand shot well, hitting 53 percent of its shots and doubling the visitors in the rebound department 54-26 including 21-11 on the offensive glass.

Freshman guard Charrise Reese had just five points for the Eagles, but had nine assists and three steals in her second collegiate game.
