Fresno Pacific Trio Downs Biola, 73-63

Marlon King had 22 points for the Eagles

BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Despite 22 points from guard Marlon King, Biola lost 73-63 to Fresno Pacific on Tuesday night in a Golden State Athletic Conference game at Chase Gymnasium in La Mirada.

The Eagles fall to 10-8 on the season and 2-6 in GSAC play and have now lost four straight after winning seven of their previous eight contests. The Sunbirds improve to 14-5 overall and 5-4 in conference.

The win was Fresno's first victory at Biola since the 1995-96 season. The Eagles had won 14-straight home games against the Sunbirds and were 22-1 against Fresno dating back to 1996-97.

King and forward Danny Campbell seemed to be Biola's lone offensive weapons on the night, as Campbell poured in 18 points in the losing effort.

On the other end of the court, Fresno's Jordan Farley scored a game-high 25 points while Adrian Sanchez added 22. Todd Brown scored 15 points–all from beyond the arc–for the Sunbirds. The trio combined for 62 of Fresno's 73 points.

The two teams got off to a poor start shooing the ball, which kept the score down through the majority of the first half. Biola took its biggest lead of the half at 23-19 on a three-pointer by Marlon King with 2:49 remaining, but Fresno Pacific went on a 17-4 run spanning the half to take a 36-27 lead three minutes into the second period.

The Eagles used a run of their own to cut the lead to 47-44 on a three-pointer by Josh Salo at the 9:53 mark. But the Sunbirds quickly stretched the lead back to nine and cruised to the victory.

Biola's post players, Danny Jones and Rocky Hampton, were held to just 15 points on the night. Jones had 10 points but didn't reach double-digits until hitting a put-back jumper with under a minute to play.

Biola travels to face GSAC foe Vanguard University on Saturday (Jan. 26) at 7:30 p.m.
