BOX SCORE
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. --- Biola snapped a three-game losing streak and ended a long scoring drought with a 3-0 non-conference win over Dominican University on Friday afternoon at Forest Meadows in San Rafael.
The Eagles, who improve to 2-3-0 on the season, managed to pull out the victory despite rough play by the Penguins (0-4-0) and an extremely rowdy crowd which came out to see the Dominican home opener.
Biola quieted that crowd early, though, with a pair of goals in the match's first 20 minutes. Sophomore forward Shalom Bako scored the first Eagles' goal in over 350 minutes with a nifty shot in the 13th minute. Bako received a great pass from freshman midfielder Jake Ravenscraft.
Just seven minutes later, the Eagles struck again as senior midfielder Ryan Parker tallied his second goal of the season off an assist by freshman forward Alex Honore.
Biola wasn't finished yet as Ravenscraft capped the scoring with his first collegiate goal, knocking home a loose ball after Parker's shot hit the post.
In net, freshman Tyler Higgins made four saves while facing nine shots to earn the shutout. He was relieved late in the game by sophomore Brenden McNulty who saw his first action of the season.
The match was marred by a number of fouls and cards. Nine cards were issued in the match with Dominican players seeing five yellows and one red and Biola receiving two yellows and a red. In addition, a total of 34 fouls were whistled.
While the Eagles snapped a scoring drought, the Penguins continue to struggle offensively and are still looking for their first goal of the 2007 season. Dominican has been shutout in all four matches and has been outscored 13-0 overall.
The Eagles look to keep their momentum going as they close out their five-game roadtrip with a match against NCAA Division III Menlo College on Saturday (Sept. 8) at 4:00 p.m.
