Eagles End Regular Season With 1-0 Win at California Baptist

Tyler Higgins recorded the shutout for Biola

BOX SCORE

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- While it wasn't the scheduled regular-season finale for Biola, the Eagles still wrapped up the schedule up with a victory, defeating California Baptist University 1-0 in a GSAC match in Riverside on Wednesday.

Biola closes out the year with a 7-10-0 record and finishes 3-6-0 in GSAC play while the Lancers drop to 6-9-1 on the season and 2-7-0 in conference.

The original match between the two was schedule for Tuesday, but pushed back because of smoke in Riverside County from the many wildfires in the area. While there was still a bit of haze in the air, the Eagles didn't let that stop the attack.

After playing to a scoreless first half with Biola managing just one shot, things began to pick up in the second. The Eagles opened up the half with three straight shots in about a minute but couldn't find the goal. The Lancers countered with a header by Ryan Loza in the 60th minute but Biola goalie Tyler Higgins made a great save.

Then, in the 62nd minute, Biola broke through with the only goal of the game. The play started with Ryan Brodmann sending a cross into the box to Jake Ravenscraft who headed it to a wide-open Ryan Parker who easily touched it into the open net.

From there on, Biola clamped down on defense, facing nine shots by Cal Baptist, but not allowing a run. Higgins played outstanding in goal, making six saves and facing 19 shots.

The Eagles' scheduled regular-season finale against San Diego Christian College, which was supposed to be played on Saturday, was cancelled earlier this week. SDCC was forced to close its campus due to wildfires around El Cajon and the game is not expected to be made up.

Biola still has an outside chance of making the NAIA Region II playoffs. If Cal Baptist is able to defeat Westmont in Santa Barbara on Saturday, the Eagles would get in over both of the teams.
