LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the second straight match, the high-flying Biola offense was grounded. This time, the Eagles had to settle for a 0-0 draw with GSAC foe Point Loma Nazarene on Wednesday night on Al Barbour Field.
Biola's playoff hopes remain alive with the tie, though, as the Eagles record of 8-5-1 overall and 4-4-1 in GSAC play should be enough to earn one of the NAIA Region II playoff berths.
The Sea Lions also kept their slim hopes alive as they move to 9-5-3 and 3-3-3 in GSAC play.
The match was a battle from start to finish and was filled with nine yellow cards between the two teams.
Neither team had a great scoring chance through the first 45 minutes, but things heated up in the second half.
Point Loma drew an early corner kick in the first five minutes of the second stanza and Justin Ongaro headed the ball toward the net only to see Biola goalie Ryan George make a great diving save.
In the final 10 minutes of regulation, Biola had three corner kick opportunities, but were unable to convert on any of them. The closest chance came with five minutes remaining as Tony Vela's header was saved by Pt. Loma netminder Bryan Louzil, but went right to Ryan Parker who headed it off the post and out.
Parker had another great chance in the first few minutes of the overtime period but his shot from point blank beat the keeper but inched just wide.
Biola has struggled offensively at home and has now been held scoreless for the last 202:08 on its home turf.
On the other hand, the Eagles have only allowed two goals in the last four matches on Al Barbour Field.
George played strong in goal, making five saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season.
The Eagles close out the regular season on Friday (Oct. 27) with a match against Hope International on Al Barbour Field in La Mirada.
